The Occupational Information Network, also known as O*NET, is a website that has information on nearly every occupation. Through this website, I have done some research on professions that interest me. For this blog, I've decided to write about the knowledge and education required for my future profession.

I would like to become a lawyer or a paralegal. As for becoming a lawyer, there are numerous skills associated with this profession. A lawyer must obtain knowledge of the government, have mastery of the English language, customer service skills, and much more. O*NET reported that 68% of lawyers have a Professional Degree, 31% have a Doctoral Degree and only 1% has Post Doctoral Training.

As for paralegals, O*NET reports that there is a "bright outlook." This means that need for paralegals is expected to grow rapidly in the next few years. Paralegals must obtain mastery of the English language, knowledge of the government, experience with clerical work, be good with technology, and more. The education for a paralegal is much less than what is needed to become a lawyer. 44% have a Bachelors Degree, 30% have an Associates Degree, and 12% have either no degree, or have been through only some college.

I think it is important to gain knowledge of prospective jobs while you are still in college. The more you know, the better prepared you will be.
